Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

How to set up and manage two-factor authentication (2FA) on your Retired.com account.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Retired.com account by requiring a second form of verification in addition to your password. This helps to protect your account if your password is compromised. Retired.com offers two options for 2FA:

  • Text Message (SMS): You will receive a unique code via SMS to your mobile phone.

  • Authenticator App (recommended): You will need to use an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator or Authy, to generate a time-based one-time password (TOTP) code.

Requirements

A mobile device with SMS access.

Instructions

Setup differs slightly between the website and the mobile app.

On the web, new users enter their phone number during sign-up and verify the code they receive. Existing users can add or update a phone number under Account Settings.

On the mobile app, new users enter their phone number when creating an account. Existing users go to Profile2-Step Verification.

Switching to Authenticator App

You can switch from SMS to an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator or Authy) through Account Settings (or Profile settings on mobile). The process involves scanning a QR code or entering a Secret Key into the app, then confirming with the generated code. We strongly recommend saving the Secret Key in a secure location.

Additional Tips

Never share your verification codes or setup credentials with anyone. If you receive an unexpected 2FA code, contact the Service Team right away.

Troubleshooting

Make sure your phone number is current and has signal. Codes are time-sensitive — request a new one if yours doesn't work in time.
